Hope your week was productive and well behaved and if not, the weekend is the time to send it off on its way while you enjoy two wonderful days of slow mornings and large cups of coffee reminding you that everything’s gonna be alright! It really is. Remind yourself to let go and enjoy right where you are today because right now, in this moment, is really the only time we have.
One of the books I like to read from time to time is Cheryl Strayed’s Brave Enough. It’s a little book full of quotes. Sometimes I just flip it open and read (and read again so it absorbs into my thoughts) whatever quote it lands on for the day. I do like them all but this is the one I read this morning:
“Withholding love distorts reality. It makes the people withholding ugly and small-hearted. It makes the people from whom things are withheld crazy and desperate and incapable of knowing what they actually feel. Don’t be strategic or coy. Strategic and coy are for jackasses. Be brave. Be authentic. Practice saying the word love, so when it matters the most to say it, you will.”
Whatever you have going on today, I hope it is sprinkled with love for you and if not, kick it to the curb and be your own damn love. After all, we are only truly in charge of ourselves anyway. If someone refuses to give love, then drop them from quickly from your thoughts and focus on what makes you smile. And I hope you find that smile every time you feel a little crazy slip in from the jackasses in the world around you. They make their choices and you make yours! A dear friend of mine, when he’s having a bad day, suddenly will say, “Just screw ’em.” Then picks up his coffee, takes a large drink, then picks back up his smile.
I hope you smile today. Even if at first you have to fake it, just hold on until you feel it arrive for real and slowly soak into your soul and warm your heart.
Best to you,
